The Gateway Church Missions Committee believes that the Great Commission should be carried out as commanded by Christ in Matthew 28:18-20. We prayerfully seek direction from Holy Spirit as we work to accomplish this task. Currently we serve in the foreign field through the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child project by packing shoe boxes. We also support a Mississippi native called to serve in the Dominican Republic in various ways such as providing Bibles, medicine bottles for a vitamin/medication ministry, and with monthly financial support to sustain her efforts. We feel that we are also called to serve in the domestic field. We not only reach out to those in the neighborhoods near our church, but also across Lauderdale County as well as to states both near and far. We have supported organizations who have a Christ-centered focus to help others in need such as Feed By Faith, Care Lodge, Center for Pregnancy Choices, Crossroads Sober Living Home, Flood of Love Disaster Relief Team, and Cans for Kids.
We started the SONshine Project in 2020 and we have been blessed to see it grow to reach people in special ways. This ministry project began to help those in our community who were facing a difficult time or were unable to get out for needed medication or supplies during the pandemic. Now, this same project has transformed to also provide items for nursing homes patients, assisted living residents, and individuals in a time of transition at the local battered women’s shelter.
The Missions Committee has been called to move beyond the comfort of our church home and become more active physically in the mission field. God has opened doors for new ministry opportunities through partnering adults and youth in our church family to participate in leading a one-day Vacation Bible School as well as making plans for future mission trips. Our committee understands that God will lay names and opportunities on the hearts of others, so we always welcome ministry suggestions from our church family.
